Scroll Drawings - ink on paper (1999-present)

"Influenced by Chinese calligraphy of the 19th century, I am interested in the use of language and symbols as something 'other' than what they are known for. The gesture of a line creating a pictorial language through my own figures and forms to catalogue the human condition.

It is the process of exploring, the tension between understanding and not understanding that motivates my work. Staying present. Like language itself, each image is it's own source of energy, yet strung together forms a movement. With 'Scroll Drawings' each drawing is a microcosm of life, unfolding from moment to moment, and then the story ends.
